Pros: Effortless Cons: Seemingly expensive Overall Review: I went from 8 to 13 bays. Power off, plug the eSATA, included, plug in the power cord, which for me is the same UPS, power up your DS1817+, TURN ON THE EXPANSION UNIT, all done, forever. If you need the bays, absolutely worth it.

Pros: Was very easy and seamless to expand my 718+ Disk Station Overall Review: Would definitely recommend for those wanting to expand their NAS.

Overall Review: Plug in drives, plug eSTATA cable, and away you go!

Pros: Very simple setup. No tools needed to put in drives. Just pop them into sleds. Connect the Esata cable & power and your NAS will pick it up right away. Cons: Only has 5 bays :p Overall Review: The drives in the expansion unit seem just as responsive as the drives in my DS718+. Would recommened.

Overall Review: I should have realized that because it is connected to the NAS bt eSATA that it would most likely not as fast as the NAS. I have my NAS connected to a 10gb port and the NAs also has a 10gb port. I can get between 750 MB/s to 1GB/s transfer rate. To this expansion unit I get about 250 MB/s. I am not saying that is a bad thing, just making sure that you are aware.

Pros: System Overview:
I) DS920+ NAS with (4) 6TB Ironwolf) Running SHR
II) 2 Samsung 970 EVO 250GB-SSD (Cache/RAID 1 Data Protection)
III) DX517 with (2) 6TB Ironwolf)
Running Synopsis Hybrid Raid (SHR)
Extremely easy setup
Expandable (5 drive slots available)
Quiet operation
Cool temps
Marries up with my DS920+ with literally plug/play operation.
Basically anyone can setup a RAID setup, with minimal effort and previous experience. Cons: None to date Overall Review: Great add-on to supersize my NAS system (Plex Server).
Ergonomically matches host unit.
All cabling included.
Love how operation is controlled via the web interface.
Note: I recommend you only power DX517 unit up/down via host unit. Do not power down manually via on/off button, use the desktop interface. The host NAS will control power to the DX517 as far as when to power up/down.

Pros: Easy to set up and configure
Just make sure eSATA connections are snug
I like the individual drive lights on each drive Cons: I have not found any cons other than the need to firmly seat the eSATA connections. I actually wasted a little time wondering why the expansion unit was not recognized by me DS920+, but it was just the cable. I did not mind this too much, since now I know this critical connection is very secure. Overall Review: Recommended for this wanting to expand Synology NAS capacity.

Overall Review: Works great. Was new and in perfect condition. I shop Newegg for all tech now. They are cheaper, and super fast. Id also prefer to not give my money to Bezos.
