Pros: Inexpensive. Cons: Designed for square-hole racks, but may work with threaded hole if rack screws are #12 (maybe even #10). Overall Review: Revising my earlier review where I state they are for square-hole racks only. The included screws will fit through the #12-24 threaded holes in the other rack I use. These rails possibly use #8 screws which can fit through the threaded holes on the rack and screw into the extension ears (see pic #2 in the product description).

Pros: Rolls smooth. No wobble. Sturdy. Inexpensive.
As mentioned by a previous reviewer, these sliding rails are intended to mount in square holes on the rack rails, which is typical for server cabinets. I bought them for use in an office/studio style equipment rack which typically uses round threaded holes. Recognizing the difference in design purpose, I did not reduce my rating even though modifications were required. Cons: Plastic rail lock – would have preferred metal. Didn’t use the square hole inserts, but they seemed a little light duty. And, yes, the mounting brackets overlapped in a 20″ deep rack and needed to be shortened. Overall Review: I used a miter box and hack saw to shorten a mounting bracket on each side and filed off the rough edges. Then I drilled out the threaded holes on all the mounting brackets so I could use the standared 10×32 screws to mount the brackets to the vertical rack rails. All in all, I think it turned out pretty good, but I ended up wondering if any body makes sliding rails for mounting to round threaded holes (without modification) instead of square holes.

Pros: Nice cheap rails Cons: Mounting brackets a little weak, the rail locks are cheap plastic not very good for long term if you need ot pull a machine a lot. Overall Review: I didn’t actually use these as intended and my review is based on my thoughts of the rails craftsmanship. I shortened the brackets with a hacksaw (great idea by another reviewer) and used the kit to make an extra wide keyboard tray. Works great for me, probably not for a pc.

Pros: Work absolutely great for the money and are very strong. holding the norco 470 case in them/ Cons: they dont lock very securely

Pros: Works about as well as you’d expect from a pair of cheap rack rails. Beats the pants off of pulling the whole chassis off the rack every time you want to service it. Cons: The glide isn’t too smooth and there’s a fair amount of wobble. Also, as another reviewer noted, the plastic locking tabs feel weak and might break under heavy use. Overall Review: Attached to my Norco model 450 case just fine. Seems to be designed for a square-hole rack as other have noted. You insert a screw from the front side of your rack, through a hole in your rack, into one of the rail’s brackets. Nonetheless, these rails worked well enough in my round-hole rack. The holes in my rack are sized for #10-32 screws. These rails use #8 machine screws. The screws are small enough that they slipped right through my rack’s screw holes and so attached to the rail brackets as intended. It’s always nice to avoid breaking out the drill. No harm, no foul.

Pros: Just installed these in my 23″ deep homemade rack on my Norco RPC-250 and RPC-251, and they fit perfectly. Great, solid construction. Confidently handled a 2u server full with 6 hard drives, not a light sucker by any means. Cons: Plastic release levers, like others have mentioned could break under heavy use.
Slightly on the large size (.5 inch on each side of the chassis) for most racks
Intended for square-hole racks, however if you just don’t use the square-hole adapters, it fits fine in a standard 10/32 threaded hole rack. Overall Review: My rack was purposely built just a tad on the wide side with these rails in mind. I have exactly 18″ available between the vertical rack posts. If you have much less then that available these likely won’t work and you’ll need to use light-duty rails that are much thinner.

Pros: They are fairly well made and aren’t ridiculously priced like most rails. Cons: Plastic rail lock, but I knew that already. Mounting hardware was not included with one of my rail sets. Not Newegg’s fault. I’ll try to contact iStar and see if they can give me a hand. Overall Review: I bought two of sets of these for a home file server and firewall. As others have said, these are made to work with “square hole” racks, but not with standard cage nuts. The brackets are threaded and there’s square washers that fit into the holes on your rack. When mounting you screw through the washer into the bracket with the rack sandwiched inbetween. Lose the washers(or in my case don’t get them to begin with) and you’ll have a very difficult time making these work.

Pros: I have been an IT admin/installer for over 10 years now and installed many types and brands of servers/equipments into racks and thus have installed my share of universal and model specific rails/server chassis.
This is an “it is what it is product”. These rails are never going to be as easy to install or as perfectly smooth or as perfectly secure as the dell rail kit you bought (for 4-5x the price) that was specifically designed for your exact model of dell server chassis.
Getting the server inserted into the rails and getting everything secure was easier with this kit then some other universal rail kits I have had to work with in the past.
My advice for installation is to not tighten the screws all the way until you have the server installed, then lift (or even better have a partner lift) the chassis up a bit to take the weight off, square the brackets and tighten all sides. My 4u server feels fully secure in the rail, and slides out with reasonable ease (again this is an inexpensive universal product, not custom built).
The recessed square post inserts, while adding a mild amount more effort, are great because it allows your server to sit flush with the rack instead of protruding out from the screw. End result is a much cleaner looking install.
For the $23 i paid for these rails, I more than get my money’s worth and I am more than satisfied. Cons: The rails do not allow the server chassis to pull out quite as far as some others – so if you have a full rack and a deep server you may not be able to get the cover off the server without removing it from the rails.
Plastic release tabs do not feel like they will hold up to continuous use, if you are going to need to remove the server from the rack on a constant basis then this may not be a good product for you. Overall Review: I will be buying these again
