takes a little getting used to toggling back and forth; overall a great tool to keep track of pup

This is a great product. I didnt need all the other options on the more expensive color screen garmins. The selling point for me is that with a quick glance I know which direction my dog is from me and how far away she is (the 2 most important things). If i want more visual data I can pull out my phone and look at the app to see full color (but I have never done that in the field, it is fun at home though!). I would not recommend this as a full on training collar. It is not marketed as one. It will do the tone/vib/shock and from like 5 miles away, but there are other garmin collars that are specifically designed for training. But I luv this unit and I use it almost daily.

Great little hand held unit. I use for hunting and hiking with the dogs. It also tracks you and dogs through the Garmin app. If you want to see where you are at on the map.

Currently having some issues with it charging (it won’t). Otherwise, good device … not as easy as other training controllers and you only have one options at a time for stimulation (i.e. you can vibrate one dog, but if you want other operations, shock or different dog, you have to manipulate the controls) … not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of.

Does not connect to collar.

First one gps antenna wasn’t working, garmin stepped up made it right. I haven’t figured out how to erase dog tracks off map of explorer app. Yet. I hope new hunt isn’t over ran with old tracks.

So the reason I purchased this was to go along with the handheld touch screen system that we had so both myself and my spouse had a way to track things if we needed to. However because of the inaccuracy of the other system it made this handheld inaccurate as well. Also the functions on this system or handheld really were not helpful at all. It just kind of points in a direction it doesn’t give you it just doesn’t have a lot of functions that the actual touch screen has, and really didn’t want to spend all the money to get another touch screen just to get all those features. So it really would be nice if they had another handheld that gave accuracy and had some of the same functions that the primary system has so that you could have two of these in your hands and didn’t have to pay an exorbitant amount if you wanted to be able to do that. I am aware you can download things through an app and use that however my husband is kind of old school and he likes to have something that is not on his phone to use for his animals.

Have yet to use the Alpha 10 in the field but before I could even pair a collar with it I found I had to do a factory reset.
Device started up and paired with my iPhone ok. This triggered an update of the firmware – also ok. But then could not pair a collar to the Alpha 10 no matter what I did. Factory reset the collar and still the same problem.
I’ll try to remember to follow up after I’ve used it in the field.
Update : Do not buy if you want to use it in Australia. Frequencies are wrong – will not work. Frequencies cannot be changed to work in Australia. Operates in the wrong part of the radio spectrum.

Not great for training. But great for hunting with dogs that only need a single beep to recall
