Overall Review: I did not find out until I was in the middle of the build with this board that the two SlimSAS ports that provide SATA are, in fact, Low Profile SlimSAS ports. Cables for LP SlimSAS essentially do not exist right now, at least on the retail market. There is one for sale on some other site, but it only goes from LP SlimSas to LP SlimSAS. There are no LP SlimSAS to SATA cables in existence.
To make matters worse, the low profile variant of the ports is not specified in the documentation or specs at all. I really don’t want to return this board, as it’s basically perfect for my application, but I don’t want to wait around for a cable that doesn’t exist yet.
I’m going to try and contact ASRock Rack support and see if maybe they got it wrong and the non-LP SlimSAS ports are the ones that support SATA.

Pros: – below $350 this is a great option to pack huge amount of power into a small box
    – can serve 48 or 64 core EPYC
    – slimSAS connectors allow you to add extra devices (e.g. additional drives, I actually use an EDSFF SSD with adapters)
    – fits e.g. 2U Dynatron coolers but also chunky ones like the ID-Cooling SE-207-TRX Cons: not always cons but need to think before you buy.
    – only 4 DIMMs, so you may be memory bandwidth limited, memory size limited or both 🙂 plan ahead or even better: try your applications in a regular EPYC server with reduced number of DIMMs
    – only the low profile slimSAS adapters do SATA, the others PCIe only (x8) so buy your extra cables carefully
    – the one on the motherboard is not a regular ATX 24pin connector, so regarding cable management you need to plan with the included 4pin->24pin adapter Overall Review: I love this motherboard. Had only 16G DIMMs but this time unlike regular server motherboards I can not just fill it up with e.g. 8 or 16 of them, limited to the 4 slots. Still, on 64G I can do a lot. The BIOS has all the options to finetune performance and power consumption so you can find a good balance depending on your needs.
Also supports splitting PCIe lanes, so you can add crazy devices to it require PCIe bifurcation.

Pros: – I/O for days, there is so so much I/O for something this size! 6x slimsas 8x gen 4!!!!!! WuT!
-Asrock Rack worked a pcb engineering miracle!
-Seems really well made and all the features of a full size server
-Perfect board for the ultimate home server built in a boutique sff.
-A great option for the cheap oem 32 core 7d12 if you want to put this in something small the 7d12’s lower power is easy to keep cool, also the 7d12 is a 4 memory channel chip so you are not wasting any slots!
-Got on sale for $379 insane deal. Cons: -can be finicky I mean come on this is a lot in a small package. Had a few issues that a firmware update and bios clear resolved.
-Potential death trap there is a big yellow sticker but don’t plug the atx converter into the HDD power or a 4pin eps from the psu into the 4pin atx header or hdd power out header..I imagine, sparks… fire..Boom….
-The atx to 4pin is a brilliant space saver rather have that than lose a slimsas. But Asrock a 10cm converter cable….. how about make this a bit longer so we dont have wedge a double wide atx connector up top somewhere. I did find that moddiy will sell custom a cable if you have any $$ leftover :p Overall Review: My Home Server Build:
    Case: Meshroom v2
PSU: CORSAIR RM650 80 Plus Gold
    Mobo: you guessed it!
    CPU: AMD EPYC 7D12
    Cooler: Dynatron A26 Sp3
    RAM: 4x PC4-3200 64GB Micron (256GB total)
    Storage: 8 x 7.68TB Micron 9200 pro U.2 SSD
