  1. Rebecca C.

    Pros: – Dual 10Gb Ethernet.
    – Remote management via OpenBMC or MegaRAC.
    – Up to 2TB ECC RAM.
    – Supports Ampere Altra processors up to the 128-core Altra Max. Cons: – Being a server/workstation board, it doesn’t come with onboard graphics or audio.
    – The learning curve is higher than many home users will be expecting, since many will be unfamiliar with RDIMM memory modules and seeing early boot messages via Serial Over LAN and not VGA. Overall Review: This is a fantastic bundle for building the smallest high-performance Arm system available.
It’s what many fans of the Arm architecture have been waiting for!
This is the list of parts I used to build the complete system:

  2. Colt S.

Pros: Good price for the package
    Thick, solid motherboard
    5 fan headers
Doesn’t run very hot (Mine is around 45 degrees C with the terrible fan setup I temporarily have on it.) Cons: Bootup takes a while
    No initial fan control (needed)
included heatsink is not great. My heatsink packaging was crumbling. You have to construct your own fan setup if using for a workstation.
Needs a vga monitor or adaptor to get into bios (or use remote management). Will not show Bios on pcie gpu.
No onboard sound. ( I know, it’s a “server” board)
Could use more usb ports, even just as headers. Overall Review: This machine takes some work to get running. Fedora 39 runs out of the box, (bootup-load-run) Ubuntu server 22.04 needs to run the HWE kernel, and is a bit funnier to run. Not really a plug-and-play solution for an Arm workstation, but it is very neat, does run well once you get it figured out. Heatsinks are a problem until Noctua gets theirs into mainstream availability. Otherwise look at alphacool for a waterblock. If you like something different, it’s very cool. Put lots of ram in it, the more the better it runs, it has a lot of processors to feed, don’t starve them!

  3. Dylan T.

Pros: IMPI\BMC, serial console accessible through IPMI, PCIE, high memory bandwidth Overall Review: This is great. I bought it for localllama\AI inference, compiling C++ code, and as a home lab system. It does not disappoint. Ubuntu Server installed quickly and easily off a USB drive. I can spin up VMs in KVM and do VFIO passthrough to guests. CPU inference on this is a good alternative to GPUs for AI when called for.

  4. Tom

Cons: Because this is a server product apparently, Newegg doesn’t offer returns on this even though I determined it was faulty within 2 weeks of getting the device. It doesn’t POST, and has never generated any signal on the VGA port. ASRock customer support has a canned message about working through your dealer to get emergency support, then hasn’t responded for 30 days. Save yourself the trouble and buy this through a real dealer and not Newegg. Overall Review: Would not buy this product from Newegg again.

  5. Michael Misiewicz

Pros: IMPI is nice. Overall Review: The board is not functional. I have been trying to get a resolution from support at Asrock and Newegg. While ASrock has been responsive quickly, I haven’t been able to get the issue solved because they’re bouncing be back and forth to Newegg. I am told I need a replacement board but can’t get help. Not what I expect from enterprise price hardware.
