Pros: This UPS is quiet and reliable. I would like to point out that all UPS’s make some amount of noise due to the nature of Inverter circuitry design. The BR1500MS does make a very faint sound during load transits (i.e. caused by computer power up and power down). However, approximately 5 to 10 minutes after the UPS reaches a steady state load condition the noise is no longer noticeable. The noise is so faint a person has to be within 2 feet of the UPS to notice it. The processor cooling fan in my personal computer makes much more noise by comparison. The UPSs that my past employers have purchased for the office computers produced a very loud buzzing sound under transient load conditions. This UPS is downright silent by comparison. The folks at APC have done a wonderful job of designing a quiet product for the home environment. Two days after purchasing this UPS my residence experienced 6 short power outages in a 24 hour period due to a storm with 70 mph winds. The BR1500MS performed flawlessly. I highly recommend this UPS for home use. Cons: None. Overall Review: This UPS trickle charges the battery as opposed to fast charging the battery like an enterprise level UPS. This approach to battery management avoids the added cost of temperature sensing circuitry and higher cost fast charging circuitry. However it should be more than adequate for home use.

Pros: It’s APC so it should perform its function well. Also, the battery compartment configuration makes it easy to replace the battery when the time comes (I know this because it ships with one battery terminal disconnected and you have to connect it prior to use). So first impressions were very positive. Cons: With the LCD on, it made a high-pitched whine/buzz/hum that alternated between 2 frequencies, making it even more distracting. I could hear it from about 12 feet away (I measured it), while using a laptop whose fan was running (guessing medium/low speed), and typing on a loud “clicky” mechanical keyboard (Cherry MX Blue switches). Additionally, although the door to the room was closed, I could clearly hear my family’s conversations in the adjoining room. In other words, the room with the UPS was not all that quiet. When the LCD turned off, the whine died down quite a bit (ie, barely perceptible, even when the room got quieter). Overall Review: I ultimately returned the UPS. I tried not to be overly critical in this review because I realize the whine might not bother others, depending on where/how they intend to use it. However, I wanted to provide enough information so others would know how loud this thing was. Additionally, I will ultimately have 3-4 of these in the room (plus 2 smaller ones), so the whine (even the quieter whine with the LCD off) makes it unusable for me (hence the one-star review). Others have indicated the noise might be an issue and APC responded by saying the newer units are quieter. However, in my opinion, they would have to be significantly quieter to be acceptable. Nevertheless, I would be curious to hear the opinion of anyone who has received a newer/quieter unit.

Pros: Works out of the box after connecting battery. Cons: Battery died after 8 months of use and APC is giving me the run around. Overall Review: I have used APC products for over 30 years without ANY PROBLEMS until now. Why is APC having problems now ? Are they having QC issues? Battery supplier issues? Something has changed for all of a sudden their products are not holding up within the warranty period and APC is being reluctant to honor their warranty. I need a replacement battery pack now and I need it ASAP.

Pros: Great hold of AC power when there is an outage and keeps my SONY tv DirecTv satellite etc working. When on Generator power the unit can clean up the Sine wave for 60Hz and does fine. A Factory NEW unit was Sent to me after the Brand NEW unit was defective right out of the box. NEW unit from factory works PERFECTLY !!! Cons: I had the dreaded whine from the unit brand new out of the box. I plugged it into a stable 115v 60hz pure AC source and it was whining so loud that you could hear it across the room. After setting up a tech call from APC They agreed that the internal low voltage transformer for the LED display was whining and there was a problem with the AC to DC switching transformer. I did run the AC line out on an Oscilloscope and it was NOT clean power nor was it voltage corrected. I took screen shots and sent it to APC. They were VERY HELPFUL and said it was defective right out of the factory. They agreed that the test report taped to the unit was definitely not correct. A RMA was setup to Cross Ship a new one as the Old (NewEgg ordered item) was sent back. The problem was taken care of FULLY by APC and I am happy Overall Review: APC needs to step up their QC on their products. I have been buying for 25 years trusting the APC brand, this was the worst set of battery backups I have purchased from them

Pros: None Cons: First power outage and this thing went up in smoke. Sparks shooting out of the top. Lucky I was home and my house didn’t catch on fire!

Pros: Multiple Read Outs On Its Display
Makes Sure You KNOW Its On Battery Power
Its Software Works And Is Really Straight Forward To Set Up
Its Battery Is Changeable Cons: The Screens Display Changes Modes When It Loses AC Power.
The Battery Died After Only 5 Months. The battery unit blew while i was playing a game so i was right next to it, it started shooting sparks and scared the sleepy me as it was around 10:30 at night. I wish it would turn its self off if it detected something is really wrong. Overall Review: I would recommend this unit HOWEVER its a hit or miss if it dies, luckily mine died while i was awake not asleep.
Great customer service however I think most companies could learn something, mine died at 10:30 at night, i called customer support at 8 am and already have a new unit on its way, great job guys!!!

Pros: Worked great for the first year. Cons: Completely died today after a power surge.
Fried my brand new monitor in the process. Overall Review: Had this unit for a year and a week at this point. Has worked great through every outage we have had and small surge that has happened. Never once had an issue or had it not work. Never had my computer turn off when things triggered etc.
Today, our power went out and instead of kicking on, the unit instead just started to boil. The internal plastic smells like it entirely melted along with potentially the batteries. The unit completely smelled out my entire house of burning plastic and fire. While the unit did not produce smoke or flames, I do honestly feel if I didn’t unplug it when I did, it probably would have caught fire soon after.
My monitor was also destroyed in the process which I had just bought last week rather than the unit doing it’s job and protecting the things connected to it. Strangely, it only seems the monitor was destroyed, the other things plugged into it seem ok. (My computer, phone charging hub/wireless pad, USB hub.)
APC claims they wont pay for my monitor or give me the proper amount claiming “fair market” nonsense and depreciation. The monitor is literally a week old.
Absolutely would not recommend this company or product. They do not honor their warranty or protection claims.

Pros: – Completely silent on line power
    – Informative display
    – Kept my desktop machine, display, and external drive running in a blackout Cons: – Smells like melting plastic when on battery power
    – Runs hot
    – Battery run time shorter than expected Overall Review: As a disaster prevention system, the BR1500MS worked well. When the mains power failed, it gave me enough time for an orderly shutdown with no data loss. I kept my ONT and wireless router powered up (total load 10 watts) so I would not lose VOIP and WiFi, and that was when the problems started. On battery power the UPS emitted a headache-inducing stench of melting or burning plastic and became alarmingly hot to the touch. I do not understand why a modern power supply rated 900 watts would show such signs of stress at 1% load.
After 45 minutes on battery power, the display’s estimated run time was 209 minutes; after 1 hour 45 minutes it was 129 minutes. These readings imply a total 10 watt run time of about four hours. They are also consistent with the manufacturer’s published specifications: efficiency of 73.5% down to 1% of rated load and a 2 hour 11 minute run time at 50 watts. Nevertheless, after only a little over two hours at 10 watts, the battery went dead and the system shut down. My guess is that the efficiency of this UPS is much worse than specified.
