2. Max boost for AMD Ryzen processors is the maximum frequency achievable by a single core on the processor running a bursty single-threaded workload. Max boost will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: thermal paste; system cooling; motherboard design and BIOS; the latest AMD chipset driver; and the latest OS updates. GD-150.

3. Precision Boost Overdrive requires an AMD Ryzen Threadripper or a Ryzen 3000/4000/5000 series desktop processor, and a compatible motherboard. AMD Ryzen 3400G and 3200G series processors are not compatible. Because Precision Boost Overdrive enables operation of the processor outside of AMD’s published specifications, use of the feature invalidates the AMD product warranty and may also void warranties offered by the system manufacturer or retailer.     Pros: – Great performance
    – Low TDP
    – Backwards compatible with older cooling solutions
    – 12 cores
    – I am using an AM5 Asus board and was upgrading; I upgraded the BIOS to make sure I had the latest greatest, took out the old processor and put in the new one. Simple.
    – It’s rock solid and just works. Plain and simple. Cons: – I upgraded from a Ryzen 9 7900x to this one. My main games are [currently] Battlefield 2042 and Flight Simulator. I am getting about 10 fps uplift in each of them. Good but not great. Modern games rely on vid cards more than CPU so I wasn’t expecting much thank goodness. If you are upgrading like me and looking for a major uplift, you won’t get it. Overall Review: Unless you have an older system, if you focus on just performance you will be disappointed. The performance uplift alone, going from a 7000 series CPU to an equivalent 9000 series, isn’t enough to justify the price and effort. What you do get though from such an upgrade is everything else you get such as lower TDP. The 7000 series had 170W TDP while this drops to 120W. The result is a CPU which runs cooler and uses far less power. This leads to fans running slower leading to a much quitter system. I can’t believe how quite my system is now compared to when I had a 7900x; my gaming experience is really enhanced. I can’t hear anything at all anymore. Plus, there is far less heat coming from my system so my room is cooler. So, there are benefits that go beyond just a mere increases in FPS during video game play.
    Ultimately, those benefits combined with the performance uplift you do get results in a total package that’s hard to beat. Keep that in mind if you are simply upgrading from a 7000 series to this. For new installs or persons upgrading from ancient equipment, this is a no brainer.

    Pros: Runs games better than my previous cpu, considerably more power effective, and less heat. Cons: None for me, not quite as fast as a 7800x3d in games if that matters to you. Overall Review: My 10700k build failed, so i chose this one since its the latest. Other than motherboard bios issues its been fantastic for me in games.

    Pros: Single-Core and Multi-core performance are amazing.
    All other than gaming is freaking fast. Cons: Gaming performance pretty on par with 7800x3d, so a little disappointing in that regard. Overall Review: I built 2 pc’s with 9900x in the last week and everything is prefect.

    Pros: Was cheaper than the 7800x3d at the time of purchase Overall Review: Dont listen to the negative reviews on YouTube , this cpu is amazing ! With the latest windows update this cpu gets even better performance ! It does better than my friends 14700k with less power draw and way cooler temps !
    Paired with an Rtx 3080 in battlefield 2042 I get 140+ fps with maxed settings in 1440p ultra wide . CPU hasnt went above 61c . Very happy with my purchase !

    Pros: Excellent option for those who a moving away from Intel due to recent problems Overall Review: – My first AMD build. I just couldn’t buy an Intel CPU with all of the problems they are having with oxidation and thermals.
    – Easily handles all of the software I’m going to throw at it for the next 5 years.

    Pros: Luckily I like spending time tweaking my CPU. My benchmark scores and framerates really did not go up until I dialed in a good Core Offset, tuned the memory beyond EXPO’s auto settings, turned off Core Isolation in Windows, downloaded Win 11 update KB5041587.
    I have not tried Win11 24H2 yet, and I am not running this with any version of Linux.
    Compared to my 7950x, I have way more throw with the Core offset. I can dial in a Core Offset beyond -25 with the 9950x, whereas my 7950x gets fussy when I try a CO beyond -5. The 9950x also doesn’t run as hot. Cons: I really don’t like that AMD is using a far lower binned CPU for the 2nd CCD. My son also has a 9950x on a Strix X670E-E board and the Silicon predictor score for the first CCD is around 125 average and the 2nd CCD is around 115 average for each core. At stock you’ll see the cores on the first CCD run at around 5.1GHz when running a multi-core workload, but the cores on the 2nd CCD run at around 4.7GHz to 4.8GHz. I did not have the same issue with my 5950x. I almost knocked a star off this CPU because of this issue.
    A BIOS update with AGESA 1202 is supposed to reduce CCD to CCD latency. With all of the teething issues Zen 5 has had so far, I have no idea why AMD released their Zen 5 processors before they were ready.
    These single or double core boost speeds are useless. I don’t know why AMD and Intel insist on giving these processors a +300MHz single core boost. This really accomplishes nothing except the CPU having to gobble voltage to boost the clocks that high. This doesn’t help one bit with modern games and multi-threaded programs. Overall Review: This kind of reminds me of Intel’s jump from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge, but in some cases the 9950x flat out overwhelms the 14900k and 7950x, but in other cases an undervolted 14900k with well-tuned RAM can squeak out a win over a tuned 9950x.
    The beefed up AVX-512 capabilities should help people that really need it.

    Pros: 1. It’s not an i9-14900k.
    2. It runs a lot cooler than my last processor. (which fried during the return process)
    3. Does what it’s intended for. Cons: 1. Not the fastest for gaming Overall Review: After the problems I had over the past year with my Intel chip I probably won’t go back and I’ve been using Intel chips for decades. This is my first AMD processor and I’ve not had any issues with it or the new MSI MB.

    Pros: 9600-series processors have improvements to the instruction set over the 7000-series and are generally more power efficient. Overall Review: Some reviewers on YouTube downplayed this processor, comparing it to the 7600 & 7600X. But no one in their right mind would do an upgrade like that. I upgraded from AM4 to AM5 and going to the newest generation of AM5 processors makes total sense. I’m very pleased with its performance for the price paid.
