Pros: Stable: this UPS is rock solid! Even though it is not discussed much here, it has a sensitivity dial in the back that allows you to adjust its delay in kicking over to the battery when you have minor ripples in AC line power. This is a valuable feature for those in areas that suffer from frequent, minor “brownouts”. The manual recommends running the unit on a circuit that doesn’t share a large appliance, such as an A/C or refrigerator, but I’ve seen no issues with a mid-sized A/C. Most of all, the “mute” button is my favorite feature. I loathe noisy UPS units that beep like mad on minor brownouts and short term power outages. Cons: Like many other UPS units, this one reeked of burning (or hot) plastic for a day or two when powered on. If I were to take a guess, the manufacturing process for the plastic housings on UPS units are getting cheaper and cheaper. Still, the smell eventually became undetectable. I’ve noticed other UPS brands have smelled worse, for a longer period of time. So in comparison, this unit isn’t so bad for the smell during the break-in period. It makes you wonder if those fumes are toxic? Overall Review: It easily handles my dual 19″ monitors and a PC with a 750W PSU. I have an older APC under my desk, right next to this unit, and every time my Air Conditioner powers on while on the same circuit, the APC trips over to battery momentarily, but this Tripp Lite rides it out. There’s a real life test that proves the usefulness of larger capacitors and better circuitry.

No computer required to monitor or control this unit.
The price is right. Cons: None. Overall Review: Our new HDTV is hooked to a cable box, DVD player, and stereo amplifier. Construction in our area meant that occasional slight power glitches caused resets and shutdowns of the TV and sometimes other things, and my wife needed me to straighten it out. This battery backup solved the problem.

Pros: The VA rating is excellent for the money. Unlike the revision pictured though, mine has passive cooling and a somewhat more accessible outlet layout. Clear and concise LEDs on the front, and the relay is quieter than I’ve heard in a lot of similar UPSes (that’s what’s responsible for the “snap” sound when the UPS switches on). Also has a fairly small footprint for the amount of power it provides. Cons: Even though the outlet layout is better than that pictured, I still had to add some 7″ extensions to accommodate all of my AC bricks. Common for SOHO-grade UPSes, but worth mentioning nonetheless. Overall Review: It seems that a lot of reviewers are complaining about the quality of TrippLite’s UPS software for Windows. I can’t speak to that, since I’m using this to hold up a handful of Linux servers in my home office. However, it works fine for my needs, and it’s quite an improvement over the APC I replaced with it.

Pros: Basic, solid UPS that is well built and handles rated loads for extended periods. Excellent run time can be extended to hours with external battery packs, unusual in this price class. Powers most all computer and AV devices, unlike some of the newfangled competition. Cons: Fan is loud when USP is on battery power, but quiet when on AC, overall acceptable. Very limited display with no power level indication until batteries are very low. Software is flaky (see other thoughts). Overall Review: The BP24V15RT2U is highly recommended for higher lods. It increases watt-hour capacity to 3x and run time 3-4x or more depending on load. This unit with the external BP has replaced two 1300VA UPS and has longer run time. 🙂
PowerAlert software has limited features and communication is unreliable on several computers, hence only 4 stars (would be 5 otherwise). Others have reported similar problems if you search…

Pros: None Cons: Purchased two of these within a timeline of 3 months. BOTH have blown out – as-in the battery still works but the rear outlets no longer produce any power.
The first purchase lasted less than 3 months. The second purchase lasted less than 24 hours. The load on these was under but near the 300 Watt limit.
Junk. Overall Review: Don’t waste your money. I will not be purchasing from Tripp Lite again. Spend a little extra and buy another brand.

Pros: Seemed like a good idea at the time. Cons: After a couple of years, the unit is unreliable. Power cycling the output even when there have been no power failures. Software says battery is low even when plugged into working AC. Note: It is NOT saying the batter is OLD or WORN; it’s saying the battery is LOW. When charging. Overall Review: This is the second Tripp Light UPS I’ve had fail on me. Done with this brand.

Pros: It arrived on time… Cons: There are two major design flaws with this UPS in my opinion. The biggest one is the noise this thing puts out. The fan is on all the time and it is easily 3 times louder than my whole setup. Completely unacceptable for my work environment. It’s so loud, I can hear it downstairs. I was hoping the fan would be on only while the batteries charged, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. This thing is loud any time it’s plugged in. Which leads me to the other design flaw. You can’t turn it off… There’s a power switch on the front, but it doesn’t actually turn it off. Anytime it’s plugged in, it’s on. I occasionally turn my computer off and the last UPS I had allowed me to power down the whole system using it’s power switch. Can’t understand the logic behind this design. According to the manual, to power the device off you need to unplug it from the wall and then power it down using the switch. I can’t see crawling under the desk to unplug it every time should I want to power it off. Definitely not what I expected from the description.
So not sure what to do. Can’t return it for a refund. I guess I’m stuck with a $200 paperweight, but it’s certainly not going to remain plugged in to my system. It’s driving me crazy. Fair warning to those looking at this… Overall Review: If you’re thinking of putting this in the same room as your computer, I wouldn’t recommend it because of the noise.
