Pros: – M.2SSD and 10GBE in one card
– Performance
– Ease of installation
– Heat sink Cons: – None Overall Review: I had been waiting for this card to come out before buying a new DiskStation because I didn’t want to have to choose between 10GBE and M.2 SSD Cache. Delivery date was as promised and it arrived in perfect condition.
I’m using this in a new DS1819+, with two Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB NVMe SSD’s. Installation of the SSD’s onto the card (all hardware included with the card), and installation of the card into the DiskStaion took just a few minutes.
I’m impressed by the heat sink that attaches over the SSD’s. Synology included two different sizes of self adhesive heat transfer pads to attach to the heat sink before you screw it down over the SSD’s. I used the larger ones for the 2280 form factor, and they cover the length of the SSD. Installed in my DS1819+ and under normal operation, the SSD’s stabilize at 44/45°C (109/111°F).
Setup in DSM was easy. You just set up a cache storage pool, select the size allocation and RAID type for the two SSD’s (I’m using RAID 1), and it starts cache operation. RAID mode of the SSD cache is independent of RAID mode on your storage volume. Note that SSD caching takes up 414KB of RAM for each 1 GB of SSD cache and you can’t use more than 25% of your RAM for this purpose.
The 10 GBE is working perfectly and required no action to setup within the DiskStation — I just plugged in the network cable. It’s working with no problems with a MikroTik 10GBE switch that I’m using as an edge router to get 10GBE between the DS1819+ and my workstation, while connecting to the rest of my 1GBE network.
DSM is showing an 88% hit rate for the cache. I’m seeing the improvement in performance with the photography related applications I use, and no issues with the applications.
This Overall, I’m very pleased with this device!

Overall Review: You plug it in, and then it works.
Obviously no one should buy this unless they are using a synology nas as there is a price premium with Synology products, but if you have one of their NAS products with a PCIE slot, this plugs in and just works. No worrying about drivers or anything like that. Plug it in, no hassle, no pain, full speeds.

Pros: Both 10g Ethernet, and cache drive. don’t have to choose one or the other. Cons: Does not support gen 4 pcie NVME m.2 hard drives. I thought I had a bad card till I swapped out the sabrent rocked gen4 500gb for sabrent gen 3 512gb and now seems to be working properly. Overall Review: Works well. just don’t waste money on a gen 4 drive for this.
-Side note. As of this comment, sabrent is not “Certified” with Synology, so you have to click through a warning that you may lose data integrity not using a synology drive. Time will tell if that is actually an issue for me.

Pros: As i have had good luck with my older Synology NAS. I recently purchased this adapter along with Synology DS1821+ NAS and 2 Synology Synology SNV3400 SDD card as cache add on. While the assembly of the E10M20-T1 was straight forward the device was not recognized by the DS1821+. I replaced the card with a 10gb intel card on that I had on hand which was detected and operational with the DS at 10gb using my current 10gb switch. I installed the 2 Synology SDD devices into the DS1821+ dedicated slots (nice feature btw) and was able to configure and use both with the current NAS volume. The E10M20-T1 was also got very hot in short period of time (130 deg. F after 3 minutes). So i sent the E10M20-T1 back for replace which was quickly replaced (extremely happy with the newegg support!). Took another look at the compatibility information and i believe everything should be in order but I may have missed something. I have placed a support request in with Synology — will see how things go! Cons: To early – to tell. Will see how things turn out and will provide follow up if possible. Overall Review: To early – to tell. Will see how things turn out and will provide follow up if possible.

Pros: – 10GB works well
– cache drives work well Overall Review: With the addition of this card and a cache drive it’s possible to write to the NAS with speeds around 400MB/s – 500MB/s. I’m not fully saturating the 10gb connection but I think that’s more of a limitation on the mechanical hard drives and cache speed.

Pros: Works with intermediate speeds like 2.5 Gbps Cons: Could have been cheaper Overall Review: Hopefully can be reused on other Linux systems
