Pros: 16 SAS/SATA trays, in front. Does support SATA3 or SAS2, using both.
Hot swap 920w power supplies. Beeps quietly if one is not powered. Also 80plus Platinum rated, if you can get the PSU loaded high to make a difference.
The ventilated slot covers are secured in place. Don’t have to snap any off, then end up filling with a blank plate later.
Top cover has a tamper switch, not very useful in a home.
Backplane cables connect parallel to the PCB. Keeps cables from sticking out into the fans, or blocking airflow.
Mounting rails extend to the depth of the 4 post rack. Minimum rack depth seems to be about 26″.
Each bag has a name for what the screws go to. Although some screws in each bag don`t seem to have any purpose. IE large thumbscrews in the HDD bag of tiny screws for the HDD trays.
Each tray has a dummy box secured in place. The trays are U shaped, thus screw down to the side of the drives only.
Comes with labels for the tray handles. Even starts with 0, but goes to 16 in case you want to start with 1. Cons: The two 2.5″ rear trays are not included. Requires purchasing bracket, trays, etc.
Also does not come with slim ODD holder. Comes with a slim floppy drive retainer though…
The cable for the front LED and switches are not separated, they are in a single plug made for Supermicro motherboards. If you are spending this much on a case, you are mostly likely doing the build right and went with a Supermicro board anyway 🙂
The 80mm fans are LOUD. think vacuum cleaners. All 5 are 4pin PWM and should be controlled via BIOS. Use Y cable(s) if needed.
The backplane connectors point downwards. Makes connecting really difficult.
Power supply cables are VERY limited. A few 4pin molex under the fans. 24pin mainboard connector, dual 4pin CPU power, and maybe a PCIE plug, but doesn’t reach the slots.
The thin metal support structure inside the bays sometimes hang down and get caught on the drives label during insertion. Requires removal of the above drive, to prevent shorting of the above drive’s PCB, then push the metal up slightly, and now reinsert both drives. Overall Review: Sorry Newegg, this was purchased elsewhere. I am providing this review to help others pull the trigger, and buy this one. Not a norco case!!!
The handles really are a very light silver color.
The slots are labeled bottom up. IE bottom is drive 1(0), top is drive 4(3).
The air shroud was put into long term storage. I may use it later if I feel I really need dual procs in the future.
Misc accessories you’ll most likely need:

I am using a Supermicro X9SAE-V main board with 8Gb nonECC RAM, Intel G2120 CPU(to slow for my needs). Areca 1880ix-16(4Gb upgrade and Battery). First 12 trays are Areca controlled, the next 4 are mainboard controlled(2xSATA2 for RAID backups+ 2xSATA3 for RAID1 OS). Rear 2 are controlled by the 1880 with 2 spare(might go with one of those dual drive carriers that fit in a slot). And 1 spare SATA2 from the mainboard. (odd one out is connected to the slim DVD). Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Pros: Lots of power and cooling Cons: Came with a bad backplane, supermicro would not warrant, had to buy a replacement myself. Cost me all my data. Also like all supermicro, loud as a jet engine.

Pros: The unit is very well built and does not flex at all. Unit has the option to buy a dual drive caddy which mount in the back of the unit so you can have a mirrored boot drive setup for the OS and have the 16 bays in the front for storage. Handles the various ATX format of motherboards. Cons: Was tricky to insert the SFF cables into the backplane. The sleds for the HDDS are a bit different then what I am use to, my first time working with a rack mount chassis. There is no bottom part on them, just front and sides. Takes more finesse to screw in the drive to the sled. No option to buy quieter fans that sit next to the backplane. Overall Review: Yes I would recommend this chassis. This model comes with the silent model of the 920W dual power supplies.
