Pros: This case is built tough. It is not light weight, but it is strong. I have used these at my place of work for over 3 years and used them for a small number of special servers I rebuilt for a customer. The layout is good certainly for a full size ATX Mobo and it comes with all you need. I particularly like the fact it does not come with a PSU so I can choose whatever I want. The locking clamshell doors are liked by customers who want at least some level of physical security. Cons: None

Pros: Holes in lid above where the cpu sits. Air holes on side of case for forced air flow direction. Solid case, great positioning of bays and fans.aesthetically pleasing. Cons: miss-measurement forethought Overall Review: I had very high hops for this case given the quality that iStar is known for along with high cost. The case is 5.25 inches tall which is a bit taller that the standard 3u which is normally 5.1. I had figured that this was to allow the extra cm for a full size graphics card. I had attempted to put in an evga card which are known to fit in 3u cases given that it’s height does is close to flush with the PCI bracket.
iStar had added a support brace in center of the case that takes up a whopping 1/2 inch from the top, this is a a lot when dealing with 2u and 3u cases. The would not be so bad since it is not actually needed and could be removed easily. But they also added a stage for the motherboard that is 1/4 inch high. when added with the low profile 1/4 inch motherboard screw legs, it eats up an additional 1/2 inch from the bottom. Together this takes off 1 inch from the case and this pushes the pci slits up to the lid so that the top of the video card just barely extends out of the case.
The motherboard stage is removable, but there are no pre-drilled holes for motherboard leg screws under it. The fact that this case takes both full and mini ATX boards, and that it is designed with hot red doors, one would thing that iStar would have tested it with some kind of video card.

Pros: Full ATX, lots of bays. Cons: Even the standard PSU requires a mounting bracket that is not included. Come on man, at least include a SFX adapter, I don’t even think they make one. I am asking a friend to 3D print one I found online. Also, case is on the expensive side, should be more user friendly for the money Overall Review: Some pros but needs improvement and pricey

Pros: + The overall construction is solid and good quality.
+ The front drive bay assembly can be easily removed to make working on drives easier.
+ It was very well packed and arrived without issues.
+ The support bar on top can be removed or moved. Cons: – The power supply placement is horrible. Between the 90 degree extension cord going to the front and the cables coming out of the rear of the PSU, it WILL intrude over the motherboard. This makes cabling annoying and difficult or impossible to use deeper PCIe cards or those with rear-mounted cables like SAS HBAs. I ended up designing and 3d printing a special bracket to mount an SFX power supply on its side so everything would fit sanely.
– The rear-mounted drive bay is probably the least convenient to access that I have personally used. To start, you need to remove 3 screws from the bottom of the case, and they really love to strip themselves. Hopefully you didn’t end up running the main power cable through it and don’t mind disconnecting all the cables if a drive in the middle of that fails.
– The support bar on top sits flush with the lid, so you can’t really use velcro or twist ties for cable management with it, like in some of their other designs. Overall Review: Don’t buy a case with a front-mounted ATX power supply unless you really need to and know what you are getting in to.
I guess they felt this was necessary in order to accommodate enough PCIe slots without requiring a non-ATX PSU. This might solve that problem, but it creates plenty of new ones. There weren’t many 3U cases that were relatively small so I picked this, but it made too many compromises. Either get a deeper case so the front mounted PSU isn’t an issue, or get a case that uses a narrower non-ATX PSU. I have another iStarUSA 4U case which I love, but the D-300-FS makes too many compromises for too little gain.
