  1. Jeffrey W.

Pros: – Very easy set up but you must download the software from manufactures site.
    – Overall very simple to use once you figure it out.
    – Excellent for first time users or people on a budget.
    – 2.5 GbE allows very fast transfer if you have a 2.5GbE network. Cons: – Very poor, just barely adequate, documentation to get you started.
    – Annoying to have to download software. Even more annoying that while the web address can be found in the limited documentation, it’s in the small computer screen pictures.
    – While software is very easy to use, there are no instructions. Quick searches on the internet and Youtube will answer all your questions though. Overall Review: If you never used a NAS before or on a budget, you won’t go wrong here.

Pros: Ease of setup (read the instructions unlike I did!!) Cons: This may only be relevant to my particular configuration(s):
The instructions say to use IP addressing for connectivity and it worked well. I thought “this is the easiest setup in the world!”, until I rebooted my PC, and then could only map a network drive from the Asustor and then would still lose connectivity after a reboot. I finally figured out that using NetBios naming maintains the connection, in my particular instance. I also turn off/turn on Samba as well, which improved things dramatically, then came the NetBios revelation. NetBios might have been in the instructions but being a legacy IT professional I probably had a bit of “I don’t need to read the full instructions” ego. Overall Review: This was my first venture into NAS and just using it for the household. I didn’t completely realize what all was included in this unit, I was just hoping for uber backup capability to replace the (3) external USB drives attached to my main rig (and I got that), but there is so much more to it. I read another review that stated this was a great platform for a beginner and they were right!!! Yet, this thing is robust for my needs and I’m learning A LOT. I can run my Plex server from it and offload that task from my PC (formerly run by a USB connected to my PC). Remote access and protection against anyone snooping around (I really have another word I’d like to use but it’s probably not acceptable in this forum) are my next two tasks. I would definitely recommend this to someone who’s just getting into NAS, like me.
I’m running 4x (4) TB Team Group QX 4TB 3D NAND QLC 2.5 Inch SATA III (T253X7004T0C101) in the NAS.

  3. James T.

Pros: I bought this really just to create some shared storage on our home network. It does a great job; so easy to set up and use…almost fool-proof. The OS is simple, and you can run all sorts of apps on it. I installed 4 drives and was up and running in about an hour.
After playing around with it, I found this little NAS could do so much more than just share disk space! The built-in app store is full of neat apps, and easy to install. I installed Plex server on and was surprised how well it did with streaming my media content. It worked great except when it came to live video encoding.
So, I decided I needed a little more power, and I traded up and bought the next higher end version Asustor sells. It was easy to swap my drives from this box to the new one. I didn’t lose anything, and the new box was almost instantly running since it got the configuration on the swapped drives.
Newegg handled the return flawlessly and I’m really happy with the purchase. Overall Review: Yes, recommend this and other Asustor products. I would buy again.
