Overview

AMD FirePro W7000 workstation graphics delivers incredible performance, superb visual quality and outstanding multidisplay design experiences to CAD/CAE professionals – all from a single-slot solution. It has a triangle rate of 1.85 billion triangles per second which is up to 2.1 times faster than the competing solution Nvidia Quadro 4000 with only 0.89 billion triangles per second, giving designers smoother interactivity when working with complex 3D models and allows them to quickly visualize and render designs.

AMD FirePro W7000 also offers 2GB of GDDR5 memory and 153.6GBps of memory bandwidth (1.7 times more memory bandwidth than Nvidia Quadro 4000), bringing the unmatched application responsiveness that professionals working with advanced visualization, complex models, large data sets and video footage need.

  1. Neil B.

Pros: For the money, this is a good 4gb card. Was to be used for surfcam. Cons: Screen flashes, artifacts everywhere, crashes, BSOD. Called AMD, they said it was the hardware not the drivers. Newegg RMA’d with free shipping. Overall Review: Dissapointed that the process for the new card will take over two weeks. Time is money, and this is causing a slow in production.

  2. Alex L.

Pros: Delivers outstanding performance in Solidworks 2013, 2011, Rapidform XOR and Autocad 2013. In Solidworks I can now load fairly large assemblies with lots of details (such as honeycombs for turbine blades) without any issue.
Brought back sanity after torture of using gaming card for CAD work (in my home office).
Definitely miles better than Quadro 4000 (which I use at work). Good job AMD, I am happy I took the chance and bought this card after years with Nvidia. Cons: None really, its fairly large and is a bit pricey, but both are understood considering card’s capabilities and purpose. Overall Review: My overall system:
    Phenom X6 1045T – CPU
    Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 – motherboard
    Corsair DDR3 1600 32gb – RAM
    AMD W7000 – Video card
    1gb harddrive
    LG Blueray Burner

  3. Adam E.

Pros: Fast, powerful, efficient. Like a sports car that gets 40 mpg. It laughs in the face of armies of polygons. I think it’s probably the best deal out there for the workstation demographic.
Plugged it in, it worked, before the drivers were even installed! Cons: Some would say price, but for all the extra development that goes into their drivers/validation/support, it’s still a good deal. We don’t need no stinking artifacts. Overall Review: If your computer needs to make you more money than you spend on it, this is an excellent choice.
If you are like to play games you should … well, maybe consider this card also. It holds its own pretty well with games, although not specifically oriented to games.

  4. Shane S.

    Pros: *very quiet
    *runs incredibly cool
*takes everything i throw at it even games on ultra (since this is a workstation card)
*cheaper than the w8000 and performs about the same.
*4 monitors! Cons: price. is still rather expensive.
amd drivers still aren’t as great as nvidia Overall Review: So, first off. Im upgrading from an msi gtx 560 ti 2gb.
i use my pc for gaming and 3d software like zbrush and 3ds max.
i can now get easily 30 million polys in zbrush without even a hint of lag or lost frame rate. same with 3ds max.
gaming is just as fluid as what you get on a gtx 680 or a 7970
works well with unreal development kit and cryengine as well. no visible changes in performance from this card as opposed to a gaming card
    pc specs
    Processor: intel i7 2600k at 3.4 ghz w/ cm 212 evo
    motherboard: asus p8z68 vpro-gen3
    hd: intel 520 ssd 120gb x 2
    ram: gskill ripjaws x 4x4gb at 1800
    running 3 monitors

  5. Oren N.

Pros: Low power card; specs look good on paper. Cons: Could not get latest stable drivers (as of 1/12/14) to work with the Dell UP2414Q UHD display at 60hz. Worked fine at 30hz.
Quadro K4000 with current drivers recognized the display at 60hz with no issues.
OS is Windows 8.1 64 bit.

  6. Glen D.

    Pros: – Card is quiet.
    – When working, rendering times were low. I used Mental Ray and Arnold, rendering times were low with them. Cons: -Card cannot handle two monitors at once around my 14 month mark.
-Card is beginning to fail after 14 months of use.
-Having trouble with rendering in After Effects, slower times rendering in After effects. Overall Review: The card doing well, actually great for me but then the 14 month came along and fail.

  7. Anonymous

    Pros: Excellent specs.
Recommended by several software applications. Cons: Blank monitor issue developed after about 1yr, and got worse as time went on.
Customer Support response time is very poor.
Submitted a trouble ticket a week ago and have yet to hear from an agent to help us with our issue.
Card performance was poor with default settings (see other thoughts) Overall Review: Found out thru trial and error that changing the config settings of this card for Open GL made a big difference in drawing performance (FYI).
If you need a card for production, and can’t afford downtime, we cannot recommend this product, due to the lack of response of technical support. (a 3yr warranty doesn’t help if no-one answers the phone or e-mails)

  8. Dean R.

Pros: This card chews through Civil 3D and AutoCAD without any issues. Runs games without a hickup (just not on max settings). Performance for value is outstanding. Single slot card with 150watts, 4K support and 4 monitor support is quite nice. Cons: This card runs extremely HOT! My system has the Corsair Air 540 case with 5 case fans and a HUGE CPU heatsink. Lots of air movement in the case but the exhaust port on this card is so hot that I can feel the heat through my socks! Although this card ran flawlessly for about a year and a half, one day, it just started displaying orange screens (died). I am assuming it was due to heat burnout. I initially contacted AMD under the three year warranty instructions on May 8th. It is now May 28th and still no forward momentum!!! Thankfully, I had a spare gaming card to install temporarily into my machine. Very disappointed in service for a commercial card. Overall Review: I will add to this review or post another review that discusses the warranty process and results in the future (depends on when AMD gets off their duffs and starts honoring their warranty).
