Pros: It has everything you’d need for a good home server. Cons: I had to use IPMI to install an OS; I couldn’t get past the boot menu options when using the internal GPU and a discrete GPU. Overall Review: Worth it.
RICHARD B. –
Pros: – High-end IPMI + dual 25gb LAN = great value at $450.
– Multitude of BIOS configuration options.
– 1-week burn-in went well. Cons: – Requires patience. Initial boot takes nearly 5 minutes as it tests RAM.
– Needs BIOS update out-of-box and must be done first.
– BMC firmware update resets IPMI static IP back to DHCP. Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this board for your server build.
ONE WEEK LATER: Solid design, extensive IPMI options, 7950x + RAM runs cool under load (using RackChoice 2U Server Chassis Short Depth / Front Ports chassis).
HINT: During initial OS install, most console messages after initial BIOS/boot are sent to the IPMI console only, NOT the monitor plugged-in. At first power-on attach a monitor, update BIOS/BMC, set BMC IP then login to IPMI console/viewer to install host OS.
HINT2: Remember to snap a picture of the NIC stickers with the MAC addresses before sealing it up.
